The modern literary process is quite an interesting and diverse phenomenon, therefore, it requires careful evaluation and analysis. In the present work, the reception of a small prose by Dmitry Glukhovsky, which can be considered an iconic figure of the beginning of the XXI century, is carried out. In a critical mass of sources, Glukhovsky’s prose receives different assessments and reading options. The relevance of the manifesting factors of the apocalyptic in the texts of the specified author, in our opinion, indicates a careful perception of the realities of the present. The artistic view of Dmitry Glukhovsky is ambiguous, contradictory, and not in tune with a number of iconic figures of post-realism and post-modernism. Otherwise, the texture of the actual is manifested in the prose of Venedikt Yerofeyev, Sasha Sokolov, Victor Pelevin, Tatyana Tolstaya, Vladimir Sorokin, Mikhail Shishkin. The prose of Dmitry Glukhovsky should be interpreted as an attempt to immanently reduce the events of the extreme years. The center of attraction the plot, the artistic conflict, the non-trivial language, the authentic imagery, and the author’s code for understanding social problems. This is most precisely realized in “Tales of the Motherland”, which in part is a dialogical version with literary classics. A variant of an individual search for Dmitry Glukhovsky also becomes a system of destruction of norms, rules, samples, restrictions. The author’s Motherland needs transformation and a compensatory concept. The article indicates that in a small prose by Dmitry Glukhovsky an attempt was made to manifest a serious, extremely important issue of social hierarchy, as well as the general problem of assessing future events. It is concluded that in “The Tales of the Motherland”, polyphony is heard and felt not only in literal voices, but also in the prospect of the recipient reaching a harmony of meanings.

Modern literary criticism quite often resorts to the use of such special terms as: “mythologism”, “myth”, “neomythologism” and “mythological picture of the world”. Most people in one way or another met with them, not only in life, but also in school, studying artwork and history, but not every person wondered about the interweaving of the concepts of “mythology” and “literature”. The concept of "myth" refers not only to literary criticism, but also to other related disciplines: cultural studies, philosophy and linguistics. The term "mythology" is quite extensive and has many facets for its study. In the field of research of this term by modern researchers - its modification after centuries of its use in writing fiction. Literary criticism examines the motifs of the mythology of specific peoples and the time spans of the formation of human culture, but only a few researchers turn in their works to the chronological chain of origin of this term and how it changed from era to era. The themes of the mythological picture of the world that are peculiar to one or another people or author are not yet fully covered. When writing this article, difficulties arose in finding the necessary information to explain the above terms, since they are perceived as something that has already been studied by most researchers. This article will consider these terms in the order of their origin and use, not only in antiquity, but modernity. The article is based on the scientific works of researchers from various scientific fields, which helped to study all the concepts identified in full and to trace the formation of mythologism in literature. The main content of the work is based on the analysis and identification of the meaning of the mentioned terms in the works of literary scholars.

This article contains the rationale for the inclusion of the topic “Speech as the basis of manipulation: methods of analysis and protection” in the school curriculum. Every student should have an idea about such use of speech as manipulation. We believe that the curriculum should be supplemented with the above topic because of its high relevance in the modern communication space. Today, the school is not only a place where the child learns the basics of science and is determined with a professional direction, but also the basis for the comprehensive development of personality, as well as a body to protect the interests of the student. It's no secret that most of the communication between representatives of school age occurs in virtual reality, which for a child can be a trap: going to a social network to communicate with peers and search for interesting information, he, without sufficient knowledge, can become a victim of speech manipulation. For generalization and deepening of analytical abilities and recognition of speech manipulative behavior in the school program it is necessary such occupation which would help the trained to generalize, systematize the knowledge and to apply them in the sphere of Internet communication, thereby having protected itself from speech manipulations. Students after familiarization with the necessary information are invited to conduct a study aimed at determining the methods of speech manipulation in the texts of publications of the social network “VKontakte”. The inclusion of this topic in the school curriculum will also allow students to develop the skills of project activities, as it involves setting research goals and objectives, selection and processing of information, as well as building logical conclusions and conclusions.

In the modern world tourism becomes a global phenomenon which affects many aspects of human life, including communication. Thus, within the sphere of tourism a special type of speech called tourism discourse appeared. However a large number of genres in tourism discourse, its close connection with other types of discourse do not allow considering this type to be studied well enough. This research is devoted to the study of linguistic features of tourism discourse on the material of tour descriptions of English tourism discourse. First of all, within the research the notions “discourse” and “tourism discourse” are studied, a typological place of tourism discourse is defined, the features of tourism discourse and its main genres are considered. Within the practical part the peculiarities of the linguistic design of the tour descriptions of the English tourism discourse at the level of vocabulary and morphology levels are studied. The given research showed that proper names (toponyms, antroponyms, names of vessels) and epithets are widely used in tour descriptions. Such lexical units as metaphors, idioms, neologisms, polysemantic words, homonyms and emotional-value words are less frequently used. On morphological level the usage of compound adjectives and adjectives in the superlative degree should be mentioned. Besides the usage of abbreviation and numerals written in numbers is a specific feature of English tourism discourse. To solve mentioned above tasks the following methods are used: analysis, classification and discursive analysis. The results of the conducted research allow us to speak about the current state of tourism discourse and the pragmatic possibilities of linguistic means used in tourism discourse.

Politeness in linguistics is studied as a multidimensional phenomenon that arouses the interest of many researchers, primarily representatives of linguistic pragmatics. In this study, politeness is considered as a communicative strategy, which performs a regulatory function in the practice of speech interaction. Communicative strategy of politeness acts as a set of communicative actions planned by the speaker, implemented during the speech act and aimed at conflict-free communication, compliance with socially accepted norms, assuming a respectful, friendly and tactful attitude to the interlocutor. The communicative strategy of politeness can be implemented through lexical (lexical indicators), morphological (morphological indicators) and syntactic means (syntactic indicators). Morphological indicators of politeness are the effective morphological means allowing to soften adverse effect of the speech act (the request, council, condemnation) testifying to installation of the speaker on conflict-free communication, observance of the socially accepted norms assuming the respectful, benevolent and tactful attitude to the interlocutor. During this study, we used special methods of linguistic analysis: semantic analysis, morphological analysis, linguopragmatic analysis, comparative linguistic analysis, methods of linguistic observation, interpretation, description, transformational method. The main morphological indicators of politeness in the speech of characters in British modern literature are the subjunctive mood, the auxiliary verb shall , Future Simple, the modal verb should . A specific morphological indicator of the politeness strategy in the speech of characters in the UK literature is the replacement of the specific forms of the Indefinite group with the forms of the Continuous group. The most frequent morphological indicators of politeness are the subjunctive mood mitigating the expression of regret, joy, condemnation or used in Directive acts of request and advice; Future Simple in the Directive acts of invitation and proposal; the auxiliary verb shall in Representative acts. English-language morphological indicators are involved in the implementation of such politeness tactics as direct request tactics, positive politeness tactics, indirect politeness tactics.

The paper studies the necessity of development of students' cognitive independence when learning foreign languages. Some methods of teaching foreign languages have been replaced by other methods with time. Modern education standards are aimed at creating conditions for intensification of students' cognitive activity. Grammatical aspect of teaching foreign languages has a great developing potential. When teaching foreign language grammar, it is important to avoid the transfer of ready-made knowledge (rules) and to create a situation where students will be able to derive and formulate rules themselves. Inductive method of teaching foreign language grammar helps students gain knowledge and foreign experience, develop techniques of working with educational material that makes the process of learning grammar more interesting and effective. Besides this teaching method helps develop students' abstract thinking. The dominant role of the teacher becomes subordinate, he acquires a role of a consultant and helps his / her students make their independent conclusions. The inductive method of learning foreign language grammar increases students' cognitive independence, their mental activity, so grammar knowledge becomes durable. The inductive method of teaching foreign language grammar is not universal, it requires more time and more teacher’s preparation, but rules which students deduced and formulated themselves can be faster and stronger remembered so the process of grammar teaching will be more effective and motivated in general. The Intensification of cognitive activity deepens interest in learning foreign languages.

The paper is devoted to the problem of using a thematic bilingual dictionary as one of the most effective ways to study foreign language vocabulary. The specificity of compiling a thematic dictionary differs from other types of dictionaries because lexical units are selected according to certain principles and are combined into themes. The choice of themes is based either on the subjective opinion of the author-compiler, or on the normative documents regulating the educational process. However, when choosing such topics, social, cognitive and communicative aspects should be taken into consideration to ensure the success of further foreign language communication. A well compiled thematic dictionary has a number of advantages in terms of methodology. It means the use of receptive and reproductive exercises. In the conclusion it is stated that the application of this kind of dictionary is wide: it can be used at different stages of the lesson, depending on the nature of work and also in different classes because the vocabulary in this dictionary will match the level of students’ preparation. Competent use of such educational bilingual thematic dictionary will help replenish the active vocabulary on key topics; improve verbal, reading, writing and listening skills; explain some socio-cultural phenomena; promote the development of educational and cognitive activity; overcome the lack of language resources with the help of synonyms and polysemantic concepts. Observation of the recommendations of the use of a thematic dictionary will facilitate the process of learning the new vocabulary and systematizing students’ knowledge.

This article is devoted to the identification and consideration of lexical means of verbal implementation of the concept «NIHILISM» in the novel «The Catcher in the Rye» by J.D. Salinger. The relevance of this work is determined by the interest of philologists and linguists in the study of concepts in fiction. The original text of the novel «The Catcher in the Rye» by J.D. Salinger was the material of the research. The goal of the article is to study and analyze means of verbal representation of the concept "NIHILISM". This goal is achieved with the use of such General scientific and special research methods like descriptive method, method of continuous sampling, the method of conceptual analysis, and the method of statistical analysis. The article discusses the history of the origin of the concept of «NIHILISM" and the theoretical foundations of the linguistic concept. In J.D. Salinger’s novel "The Catcher in the Rye" the protagonist, Holden Caulfield, tells his story to the reader, not hoping to gain approval, in a rather specific manner. He says everything as it is, without concealing anything or embellishing it. The linguistic personality of Holden Caulfield is interesting for linguists, as his speech is replete with stylistically marked vocabulary (slang and vulgarism), which is a layer of colloquial English vocabulary. Through reduced vocabulary Salinger reveals Caulfield's personality, his most adolescent worldview, personifying a single protest, a quiet rebellion against an established system of values that is dressed in the form of nihilism - absolute denial.

This article contains the idea and description of an extensive color picture of the world by identifying lexical means presented in a mystical novel. The color scheme of the mystical literary genre is characterized by a wide variety of colors used, which creates a vivid picture and attracts readers, which determines the relevance of this analysis. The research material was the classic mystical novel by Irish writer Bram Stoker "Dracula", which tells the story of vampires. The goal of this article is to analyze the colour scheme of mystical narrative and the means of verbal representation. The methods used in this article are defined by a common goal, among them the general methods of scientific knowledge are used: synthesis, observation, comparison, analysis, as well as special research methods: statistical analysis, continuous sampling method, descriptive method. The article describes the theoretical foundations in the works of scientists on the topic of research. The mystical narrative genre has the goal of causing fear and horror in the reader and to maintain this feeling until the end of the work, a detailed description of spirits, ghosts and vampires helps in this. To achieve this goal, the author of a mystical work must immerse the reader in darkness and paint his color picture of the world as realistic as possible, using his empirical experience. The perception of color by a person most often has a stereotypical meaning, however, a person’s imagination may go beyond the stereotypes that have formed during his life. After conducting a study, we identified lexical means representing the main eight colors of a mystical work and their various shades.

Translation transformations concern many aspects of the language, that is why their usage for creating an adequate translation remains relevant of translators. Literary translation has always been a special problem because of the striking imagery of the original text, peculiarities of the author’s individual style and the text belonging to a certain time and place. These create numerous problems for conveying the text information in the translation language, which can be solved by using translation transformations. The novel “Flowers for Algernon” by Daniel Keyes is in the focus of special interest for translation theory as the narrator is a mentally deficient person and the author by means of vocabulary, grammar and spelling reflects the peculiarities of his speech and mental condition in the text. The article deals with the analysis of structural and semantic features of lexical transformations in the translation of the novel “Flowers for Algernon” by Daniel Keyes. Using the classification of translation transformations developed by V.N. Komissarov, the following translation transformations were analysed: transcription, transliteration, loan translation, concretization, generalization and modulation. To analyse the above mentioned transformations the translation by S.S. Sharov was used. As a result 104 cases of lexical transformations were identified, including 41 cases of transcription, 15 - of transliteration, 1 - of loan translation, 17 cases of concretization, 11 - of generalization and 23 cases of modulation. The usage of these lexical transformations aims at conveying the image of the main character, besides having a number of other purposes.
