THE INVENTION OF APOCALYPTIC DMITRY GLUKHOVSKY

Bezrukov A.N.

Abstract

The modern literary process is quite an interesting and diverse phenomenon, therefore, it requires careful evaluation and analysis. In the present work, the reception of a small prose by Dmitry Glukhovsky, which can be considered an iconic figure of the beginning of the XXI century, is carried out. In a critical mass of sources, Glukhovsky’s prose receives different assessments and reading options. The relevance of the manifesting factors of the apocalyptic in the texts of the specified author, in our opinion, indicates a careful perception of the realities of the present. The artistic view of Dmitry Glukhovsky is ambiguous, contradictory, and not in tune with a number of iconic figures of post-realism and post-modernism. Otherwise, the texture of the actual is manifested in the prose of Venedikt Yerofeyev, Sasha Sokolov, Victor Pelevin, Tatyana Tolstaya, Vladimir Sorokin, Mikhail Shishkin. The prose of Dmitry Glukhovsky should be interpreted as an attempt to immanently reduce the events of the extreme years. The center of attraction the plot, the artistic conflict, the non-trivial language, the authentic imagery, and the author’s code for understanding social problems. This is most precisely realized in “Tales of the Motherland”, which in part is a dialogical version with literary classics. A variant of an individual search for Dmitry Glukhovsky also becomes a system of destruction of norms, rules, samples, restrictions. The author’s Motherland needs transformation and a compensatory concept. The article indicates that in a small prose by Dmitry Glukhovsky an attempt was made to manifest a serious, extremely important issue of social hierarchy, as well as the general problem of assessing future events. It is concluded that in “The Tales of the Motherland”, polyphony is heard and felt not only in literal voices, but also in the prospect of the recipient reaching a harmony of meanings.

Dondik L.Y.

Abstract

Politeness in linguistics is studied as a multidimensional phenomenon that arouses the interest of many researchers, primarily representatives of linguistic pragmatics. In this study, politeness is considered as a communicative strategy, which performs a regulatory function in the practice of speech interaction. Communicative strategy of politeness acts as a set of communicative actions planned by the speaker, implemented during the speech act and aimed at conflict-free communication, compliance with socially accepted norms, assuming a respectful, friendly and tactful attitude to the interlocutor. The communicative strategy of politeness can be implemented through lexical (lexical indicators), morphological (morphological indicators) and syntactic means (syntactic indicators). Morphological indicators of politeness are the effective morphological means allowing to soften adverse effect of the speech act (the request, council, condemnation) testifying to installation of the speaker on conflict-free communication, observance of the socially accepted norms assuming the respectful, benevolent and tactful attitude to the interlocutor. During this study, we used special methods of linguistic analysis: semantic analysis, morphological analysis, linguopragmatic analysis, comparative linguistic analysis, methods of linguistic observation, interpretation, description, transformational method. The main morphological indicators of politeness in the speech of characters in British modern literature are the subjunctive mood, the auxiliary verb shall , Future Simple, the modal verb should . A specific morphological indicator of the politeness strategy in the speech of characters in the UK literature is the replacement of the specific forms of the Indefinite group with the forms of the Continuous group. The most frequent morphological indicators of politeness are the subjunctive mood mitigating the expression of regret, joy, condemnation or used in Directive acts of request and advice; Future Simple in the Directive acts of invitation and proposal; the auxiliary verb shall in Representative acts. English-language morphological indicators are involved in the implementation of such politeness tactics as direct request tactics, positive politeness tactics, indirect politeness tactics.

DEVELOPMENT OF COGNITIVE INDEPENDENCE OF STUDENTS IN THE PROCESS OF TEACHING FOREIGN LANGUAGE GRAMMAR INDUCTIVELY

Kiryushina O.V.

Abstract

The paper studies the necessity of development of students' cognitive independence when learning foreign languages. Some methods of teaching foreign languages have been replaced by other methods with time. Modern education standards are aimed at creating conditions for intensification of students' cognitive activity. Grammatical aspect of teaching foreign languages has a great developing potential. When teaching foreign language grammar, it is important to avoid the transfer of ready-made knowledge (rules) and to create a situation where students will be able to derive and formulate rules themselves. Inductive method of teaching foreign language grammar helps students gain knowledge and foreign experience, develop techniques of working with educational material that makes the process of learning grammar more interesting and effective. Besides this teaching method helps develop students' abstract thinking. The dominant role of the teacher becomes subordinate, he acquires a role of a consultant and helps his / her students make their independent conclusions. The inductive method of learning foreign language grammar increases students' cognitive independence, their mental activity, so grammar knowledge becomes durable. The inductive method of teaching foreign language grammar is not universal, it requires more time and more teacher’s preparation, but rules which students deduced and formulated themselves can be faster and stronger remembered so the process of grammar teaching will be more effective and motivated in general. The Intensification of cognitive activity deepens interest in learning foreign languages.

THE METHODS OF USING THEMATIC DICTIONARY AS AN EFFECTIVE WAY OF MEMORIZING FOREIGN LANGUAGE VOCABULARY

Trubina Z.I.

Abstract

The paper is devoted to the problem of using a thematic bilingual dictionary as one of the most effective ways to study foreign language vocabulary. The specificity of compiling a thematic dictionary differs from other types of dictionaries because lexical units are selected according to certain principles and are combined into themes. The choice of themes is based either on the subjective opinion of the author-compiler, or on the normative documents regulating the educational process. However, when choosing such topics, social, cognitive and communicative aspects should be taken into consideration to ensure the success of further foreign language communication. A well compiled thematic dictionary has a number of advantages in terms of methodology. It means the use of receptive and reproductive exercises. In the conclusion it is stated that the application of this kind of dictionary is wide: it can be used at different stages of the lesson, depending on the nature of work and also in different classes because the vocabulary in this dictionary will match the level of students’ preparation. Competent use of such educational bilingual thematic dictionary will help replenish the active vocabulary on key topics; improve verbal, reading, writing and listening skills; explain some socio-cultural phenomena; promote the development of educational and cognitive activity; overcome the lack of language resources with the help of synonyms and polysemantic concepts. Observation of the recommendations of the use of a thematic dictionary will facilitate the process of learning the new vocabulary and systematizing students’ knowledge.

Abstract

The relevance of this work is determined by the interest of philologists and linguists in the study of concepts in fiction. The original text of the novel «The Catcher in the Rye» by J.D. Salinger was the material of the research. The goal of the article is to study and analyze means of verbal representation of the concept "NIHILISM". This goal is achieved with the use of such General scientific and special research methods like descriptive method, method of continuous sampling, the method of conceptual analysis, and the method of statistical analysis. The article discusses the history of the origin of the concept of «NIHILISM" and the theoretical foundations of the linguistic concept. In J.D. Salinger’s novel "The Catcher in the Rye" the protagonist, Holden Caulfield, tells his story to the reader, not hoping to gain approval, in a rather specific manner. He says everything as it is, without concealing anything or embellishing it. The linguistic personality of Holden Caulfield is interesting for linguists, as his speech is replete with stylistically marked vocabulary (slang and vulgarism), which is a layer of colloquial English vocabulary. Through reduced vocabulary Salinger reveals Caulfield's personality, his most adolescent worldview, personifying a single protest, a quiet rebellion against an established system of values that is dressed in the form of nihilism - absolute denial.

The mystical narrative genre has the goal of causing fear and horror in the reader and to maintain this feeling until the end of the work, a detailed description of spirits, ghosts and vampires helps in this. To achieve this goal, the author of a mystical work must immerse the reader in darkness and paint his color picture of the world as realistic as possible, using his empirical experience. The perception of color by a person most often has a stereotypical meaning, however, a person’s imagination may go beyond the stereotypes that have formed during his life. After conducting a study, we identified lexical means representing the main eight colors of a mystical work and their various shades.
